Marc by Marc Jacobs is a second line of Marc Jacobs. Target group of Marc by Marc Jacobs is around 18-28. Selling price is a bit lower to attract the attention of younger age group.
In recent years, colors in high value and chroma must be present in the autumn winter color list of Marc by Marc Jacobs. Such as high value of light green in A/W 2008, high value and moderate chroma of red in A/W 2007, and even fluorescent pink of A/W 2005. Everyone would expect to have the same color value in the coming season to extend this “color tradition”. However, receding colors are my color predictions of autumn / winter 2009: low chroma of dark green, navy, beige, plus winter colours – black, grey and white.
Marc Jacobs is using high value colors for several years already. It is time to show some “changes” in the coming seasons – receding colors. As being a US citizen came from New York, the most hit topic - “change” from the 44th president.
Analogous color combinations are well-used in past years. So it will be the same in the coming season. Navy, dark green and light yellow-like beige will be used. Besides to pay attention on analogic color scheme, black, grey and white are basic colors in cold season.
After studying the designs in past few years of Marc by Marc Jacobs, I realized that designer spent a lot of effort on creating patterns in his designs. He seldom uses several layers of fabrics to create spacing effect. Check, stripes, small dots and even floral patterns through out the whole fabric panel were used in his designs every year. Patterns will never been found to fulfill the whole body, but only part in the garments. Besides created by multi fabric layers, different patterns will create the same spacious effect too. Within so many types of patterns, Marc Jacobs loves to use check and stripes. Therefore, i am keeping this “tradition” in my color prediction. Small checks in dark green and navy are used for the top body. Don’t forget stripes are also commonly found in Marc’s design, so I am using them in my designs.
Accessories are also an important market in the business of Marc by Marc Jacobs. Colors with high value and chroma can be easily found in their accessories, such as shocking pink, red in high value and chroma, and bright orange. As I have mentioned that target group of Marc by Marc Jacobs is 18 to 28 year old, attractive colors of accessories such as necklace, handbags, earrings will attractive their attention. Especially the colors are usually colors in high value and chroma. Accessories in sharp colors can bring out an outstanding value when it is wear together with outwears in receding colors.
Flower logo of petal is the corporate logo of Marc by Marc Jacobs. A natural taste with relax feeling is the main theme of their perfume called “Daisy”. I collect an idea with using receding colors of dark green, navy, beige and black from this perfume, providing a color sense of natural and relax.
